Confirmation

St Monica Parish – Nepean

What Is Confirmation?

Confirmation is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic Church, along with Baptism and First Communion. In this powerful sacrament, candidates are strengthened by the Holy Spirit, confirming the grace of Baptism and embracing their full identity as members of the Catholic faith.

More Than Just a Grade Level

At St Monica Parish, we believe that Confirmation is not about age—it’s about readiness.

While the Archdiocese of Ottawa–Cornwall allows Confirmation to be received as early as Grade 6, preparation is not done automatically by grade or school group. Instead, we focus on:

  • Personal readiness and understanding
  • A sincere desire to grow in faith
  • A visible intention to practice the faith weekly as a family

This sacrament is a sacred decision, not a checklist item. We walk with each candidate and their family to ensure that the preparation reflects that importance.

Preparing for Confirmation

Preparation is a joint effort between the parish, the candidate, and their family. It includes:

  • Faith-based reflection and discussion
  • Parent-child engagement with resources provided by the parish
  • A commitment to attend Mass regularly
  • A welcoming, non-rushed environment that supports spiritual growth

Next Opportunity for Registration

The next Confirmation preparation and celebration will begin in

January 2026.

If you believe your child (or you, as a teen or adult) may be ready by then, we encourage you to begin praying and reflecting as a family now.
