A few weeks ago, after consulting with our Parish Finance Council, I contracted the help of two contractors to address the safety concerns at the front of our parish church.

Beginning last Monday, Valley Home Solutions has been working at repairing the retaining wall at the East side of the church, as well as replacing the broken cap stones at the main entrance and the damaged areas of the handicap ramp. This project should be completed this coming week.

The second safety project is the exterior North Wall of the parish. Humble Creek Homes will be applying a metal mesh to contain the bricks and applying tin siding to the wall (as was done to the front of the church as part of a previous project).

As you are aware, a powerful wind storm two summers ago destroyed our platform on the big NCC field on the South side of the church. With our patronal feast coming up in late August, I felt it was important that we replace the platform. Last week, some of our parishioners volunteered to rebuild the platform. I’m very grateful to the dedication and hard work that Deacon André, John Oram, Dan Langlais, Jean Daniel Chouloute and Dominic Ng in making this completed project a success.

Now that we have a platform installed on our South side lawn, it will be easier to place a temporary altar and credence table for our outdoor patronal feast day mass of St. Monica, scheduled for August 25th at 10:00am. This mass will be the only Sunday morning Mass being held that day. We’re also planning to have a couple of food trucks, a dunk tank, and other fun family friendly activities that day. Stay tuned for further details over the next few weeks.
