Join us at St. Monica’s with Mass beginning at 7 pm. The church will be open after Mass until midnight for those who wish to stay and pray with Jesus in Blessed Sacrament in the parish hall.
“Holy Thursday Mass, also known as the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, begins the Triduum, a three-day celebration and the most sacred time of the liturgical year. We remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples (the first Mass) when he gave us his body and blood in the Eucharist and commanded us to love one another as he has loved us.
We also recall how Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and taught us to be servant leaders. During the Mass, the priest washes the feet of members of the parish, a powerful sign of humility.
This Mass doesn’t end. It closes in quiet reverence with a solemn procession. Jesus, present in the Eucharist, is carried to a temporary altar or chapel; people are invited to remain and pray, remembering Jesus praying alone in the Garden of Gethsemane. By sitting quietly, we sit with him.”
